There are times when I am studying my Bible and something I read completely overwhelms me with joy.I feel so alive and free, it’s one of the few things that I have felt more than a few times. I never knew how to describe what I was feeling. I feel in those moments that my Spirit is totally one with my Father. This is how He has moved in me most recently. I just want to stay in that, never let that feeling go. The warmth of presence, the feeling of complete peace and security, like He’s hugging me like wrapping a warm blanket around me.

I think the only time, other than my time with Yahweh, that I’ve felt that connection is when I’m at the ocean. Growing up, I lived a number of years on an island off the Atlantic Coast in SC. It was near the Marine Corp Base. I always loved the sound of the ocean, the way the waves crashed upon the shoreline. During the seasonal very high tide we had an extra area for the water to escape to before coming into our yard. We has swampy areas nearby too and they weren’t the best smelling areas to be around. What I loved was the smell of the fresh salty air that surrounded me when I would first wake up and go outside.

The smell and sound of the ocean revives my soul. I miss the ocean so very much and am excited about someday returning. All the memories I have of the ocean, watching the seagulls flying overhead, hearing the sound of the waves rolling in, the smell of the air and the breezes blowing on my face; all of this remind me of the parables and scriptures I’ve read or heard of in the Bible. The waves remind me of the Red Sea parting and how I would love to be walking in the middle of that parting. The clouds in the wilderness would be like a giant umbrella hovering overhead to keep the hot fiery sun off my young tender skin. The seagulls like the Dove that Noah sent out the porthole of the Ark and later returning with an Olive Branch (Genesis 8:11).

Yahweh says the sacrifices were as a sweet aroma and I can imagine what He meant by that. It wasn’t about the animal being sacrificed, to Him, I think it was about the fact that so many were United and celebrating in the same way, bringing what you’re told to bring, the pure and loving essence of Obedience. (Leviticus chapter 1 and at least two verses speak of the sweet aroma. (verses 13 & 17)

I sit here and ponder, aren’t we all that way. Even through the hard times or dealing with someone we may not care to have any association with, but in a crisis we give in and several Unite to Restore and Renew. People often refer to this as, “the sweet smell of Success”.
